Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day/Night rotation
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Unit Size: 17 beds (14 inpatient, 3 observation)
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:4
- Nights: 1:5
Scheduling: Self-scheduling available
Weekend Requirement: As needed
Holiday Requirement: None
Floating: May float to ED/ICU for 1:1 assignments as needed
Orientation: 1 unit-specific orientation shift (12 hours), or one night and one day if needed
Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs

Adults and pediatric patients
Common diagnoses: UTI, altered mental status, pneumonia, COPD
Pediatrician on call (not in-house); pediatric patients not managed by hospitalists
Respiratory therapy equipment present (BiPAP occasionally); RNs troubleshoot but do not manage vents
Telemetry monitors used; Med Surg/Peds nurses apply telemetry leads but do not interpret strips (ICU monitors telemetry and reads strips)
Charge nurse present on each shift and takes patient assignments
Nurse aides/patient care techs support the unit:
- Day shift: 2 aides per 15 patients
- Night shift: 1 aide

No clinical involvement beyond nursing scope (e.g., no ventilator management)
RNs do not titrate drips
Common IV infusions: electrolytes, hypertensive medications, diuretics (rarely continuous infusion)
Do not titrate hypertensive or hypotensive medications

Fit testing required; facial hair may disqualify due to inability to pass fit test or use PAPR
Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related healthcare system facilities
Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
Successful nurses on this unit are communicative, motivated, approachable, team-oriented, and proactive in asking questions
Documentation can be challenging; attention to detail is important
