Registered Nurse (Med-Surg) - Travel Assignment

Location: Galesburg, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), approximately 36 hours per week

Job Description

• Med-Surg RN needed for an 8-week travel assignment (contract length is 13 weeks).
• Work 12-hour night shifts on a Med-Surg unit with 37 beds (private and semi-private rooms).
• Patient types include COPD, Sepsis, CVA, COVID, Pneumonia, and various surgical cases (hips, knees, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, bowel resections).
• Unit includes patients requiring Telemetry monitoring (monitored centrally with nurse notification), BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow oxygen; no ventilators on the unit.
• No call requirement; weekend work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
• Holiday work may be required every other holiday depending on schedule.
• Floating to other floors possible if competent, including ICU assignments, with full patient load.
• Self-scheduling available but manager assigns schedules due to short contract length. Block scheduling attempts made while meeting weekend requirements.
• Orientation includes 2 days on the unit and 1 day hospital/EMR orientation (EPIC).

Unit & Support Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Day shift: 1:4-6
  • Night shift: 1:5-6
• CNAs available with ratios of 1:10-15.
• Charge nurses usually available 24/7 and may take patient assignments if needed.
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7.
• Pharmacy available during the day with ePharmacist support at night; nursing supervisor assists with medication needs.
• Hospitalist coverage during the day; APN and eHospitalist coverage at night.
• No IV team on the unit.

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or proof that application process has been initiated.
• BLS certification (AHA).
• Must comply with drug-free campus policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels.

Additional Information

• Scrub color is flexible; approved logo gear with scrub pants allowed.
• Local rate adjustments apply for clinicians living within 50 miles of the facility.
• Orientation hours (12 hours) are non-billable and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.
• Call off policy allows equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty.
