Overview

• Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
• Contract length: 26 weeks
• Shift: Days, 12 hours
• Hours per week: 48

Unit Details

• Department: Medsurg/Onc RN
• Beds: 31
• Patient population: Adults and geriatrics
• Common diagnoses / patient types: Strokes, HTN, COPD, cellulitis, CHF, A fib non RVR, chest pain, MI after ICU, AMS/behavioral, some Tele, surgical overflow, oncology patients
• Oncology note: Core staff do chemo; no Onc provider in house current day

Required Qualifications

• BLS certification
• RN required to titrate drips
• First-time travelers accepted

Preferred

• Experience with trach and BiPAP

Schedule

• Manager makes the schedule
• Block scheduling may be considered if unit needs are met
• Weekend requirement: every other
• Holiday requirement: as needed
• Call / standby: none

Float / Coverage

• Floats to other MedSurg units
• May float to tele, where a tele RN will do strips
• May float to ER holds occasionally
• Does not float to mom baby

Unit Support

• Charge nurse on each shift; usually no assignment unless staffing need
• Nurse aides / patient care techs available, ratio 1:8
• Tele / monitor techs available
• RN not required to read and interpret strips; tele packs are used

Clinical / Equipment Notes

• Common titratable or set-rate drips include Lasix and Heparin
• BiPAP stable
• Established trachs with blow-by oxygen

Orientation

• 1–2 shifts on the floor

Additional Notes

• No specific scrub color
• Great unit culture and teamwork; family-oriented unit
• Travelers are expected to feel supported
