Location: Asheville, North Carolina

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
  • Employment Type: Travel
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Unit: PICU (9 beds)
  • Patient Ratios:
    • PICU: 1 RN to 1-2 patients
    • Stepdown: 1 RN to 2-3 patients
  • Scheduling: 6-week schedule with 3 weekends required
  • Floating: May float to Pediatrics and NICU

Unit Specifics

  • Scrub Colors: Navy blue or white
  • Equipment: Alaris pumps
  • Documentation System: Cerner
  • Staffing Support: Unit secretaries and shared tech support (tech shared with PICU)
  • Patient Experience Requirement: Minimum 1 year PICU experience

Required Certifications & Skills

  • Certifications:
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – required
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Licenses: Registered Nurse License
  • Procedures Performed:
    • IV starts
    • Catheterizations
    • Holding for lumbar punctures (LPs)
    • Central line dressing changes
    • Hemodynamic monitoring
    • Tracheostomy care
    • Tube feeding and placement
    • Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring
    • Ventilator management

Dress Code

  • All navy, all white, or navy pants with white tops

Additional Information

  • Self-scheduling available
  • Access to unit-specific policies and guidelines via intranet
  • Work environment supported by experienced staff and advanced technology
