Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Farmington, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Facility & Unit Overview

  • Level III Trauma Center with 48 beds (including flex space)
  • Emergency Department with patient ratios: 4:1 in Main ED, 6:1 in Fast Track
  • Patient population includes ESRD, Cirrhosis, COPD, Psychiatric cases
  • Equipment includes Zoll Defibrillator, Level One Blood Transfuser, QinFlow Blood Warmer, Hospira Plum360, Freestyle and iStat POC devices, Ultrasound Guided IV
  • Electronic Health Record system: Cerner
  • Team nursing and Pod System model
  • Social Worker and Unit Educator assigned to the department

Position Details

  • Role: Registered Nurse (RN) in Emergency Medicine
  • Shift: 7 PM to 7 AM
  • Weekly Hours: 36 hours guaranteed
  • Weekend Requirement: Minimum of two weekends per schedule
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Number of Openings: 1

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Mexico
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Certifications (must be from American Heart Association):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Experience with Trauma, Stroke, and Moderate Sedation

Skills & Experience

  • Must have experience with Trauma, Stroke, STEMI, Sepsis, and Moderate Sedation
  • Preferred: 2 years Emergency Department experience
  • Common diagnoses treated include ESRD, Substance Abuse Disorders, Psychological Disorders, COPD, CHF, Abdominal Pain, Chest Pain

  • No float requirements

  • Patient care involves a diverse range of acute and chronic conditions typical of a regional trauma center
  • Located in a scenic area with outdoor recreational opportunities nearby (not relevant for clinical duties but may interest travelers)

Pros

Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.

Cons

It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
