Registered Nurse - ER

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Weekend shifts required; scheduled days will vary based on staffing needs
  • Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
  • Work every other holiday
  • Shift: Mids (36 or 48 hours)
  • Maximum 40 hours approved for time off

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Room (ER) nursing experience
  • At least 1 year of Level 1 ER experience or 2 years of Level 2 ER experience, including some pediatric experience
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • Experience working with Level 2 Trauma patients
  • ACLS certification issued by American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA)
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - must have before start (pending submission allowed)

License Requirements

  • Valid Virginia RN license required (can submit with license pending)

Compliance and Background Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually
  • Education verification through a third-party vendor (BSN preferred; ASN required if no BSN)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
  • Fingerprinting may be required depending on unit
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Registry check required if assigned to behavioral health units

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (Tdap after age 11, no exemptions allowed)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
  • Annual TB questionnaire if past positive
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no declinations allowed for measles
  • Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer required or negative surface antibody and antigen titers (no declinations)
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required; declination accepted but will not hold clearance
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions)
  • Drug screening within 2 months of start, updated annually (10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl)

  • Proof of 2 clinical references
  • Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable
  • Pass/fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
  • Professional appearance guidelines review and acknowledgment
  • Fit testing may be required for patient-facing roles
