Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Amarillo, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

Shift Options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts, Nights
Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:6
Number of Rooms/Beds: 10
Local candidates not accepted (50 mile radius rule)

Requirements/Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas with primary source verification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical (MedSurg) RN experience within the last year
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP) certification
Chemotherapy certification (CHEMO)
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
National Tech Cert Verification
Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification

Required Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as applicable
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) as applicable
Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP) as applicable
Chemotherapy certification as applicable
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) as applicable
Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) as applicable
NIH Stroke Certification as applicable
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) as applicable

Required Licenses

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Texas with primary source verification

Health & Compliance Requirements

Physical exam within 12 months of start
Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
Required immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella (Chickenpox)
Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)

Background & Verification

7-year background check updated annually
Education verification with highest level confirmed
Work history verification for 7 years
Required documentation includes valid driver’s license/state ID and I-9 verification
Additional screenings: EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG

Competency Requirements

Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
Color blind testing (online acceptable)
Core competency exams as applicable, with annual renewal

Additional Notes

Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required
Clear headshot photo for badge required
Fingerprinting required for certain placements (time sensitive)
Complete application/resume and unit-specific skills checklist required annually

This position offers a travel contract opportunity for experienced Medical Surgical Registered Nurses seeking night shifts with a defined nurse-to-patient ratio in a 10-bed unit. Prior travel experience is not required.
