Registered Nurse - MedSurg Unit

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 4x12 hour nights (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Floating: Required
Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
Local Radius Requirement: Must live within 75 miles

Unit Description

• Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) / MedSurg step-down unit with 26 beds
• Provides care for adult acute care patients requiring specialized monitoring beyond general MedSurg
• Patients have continuous pulse-oximetry and telemetry monitoring
• Care includes airway management, acute BIPAP support, arterial and central lines, titrated IV infusions
• Patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:7
• Multi-disciplinary team approach with emphasis on vigilance and compassionate care

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year experience as a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) RN within the last year
• Certifications issued by the American Heart Association:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
• Tech Cert Verification - National
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to float to other units as needed
• Must be able to work every other weekend
• Government-issued photo ID required
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and eligibility to work in the U.S.
• Various health and compliance documents required within 5 days of contract signing, including:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year)
  • Fit mask test (annual)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
  • Flu vaccination or declination during flu season
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year
• References and employment verification required

• Tertiary care hospital setting
• 528 staffed beds facility
• Scrub color: any combination of navy and white
