Registered Nurse - SICU (New Orleans, Louisiana)

Job Overview

• High acuity ICU setting with a patient ratio of 1:2
• Float requirement to other ICUs and Step-Down Units (SDUs)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system required
• Preferred experience with PA catheters and balloon pumps
• No block scheduling requests accepted

ICU Unit Skills:

• CVICU: Care for post-op CABG, valve replacement/repair, aortic dissection, IABP, PA catheter
• SICU: General post-op care for surgical recovery patients
• Transplant Recovery: Liver, heart, lungs, kidney, pancreas
• Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)

Emergency Team Assignment

• May be assigned to an emergency team during events, requiring staying onsite until event passes or relief arrives

Required Certifications

• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS Certification
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (verify with management if unclear)

Required Licenses and Documents

• Valid RN license in Louisiana
• Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy)
• Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, and education verification
• NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (no instant screens)
• Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
• Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap required for certain units)
  • TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months; chest x-ray and questionnaire if positive
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella immunity or vaccination
  • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
  • Varicella immunity or vaccination
• Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30)

Additional Requirements

• Skills checklist updated annually
• Employment application/resume with 7 years employment history and gap explanations
• May be required to complete emergency preparedness checklist during hurricane season (June 1 - Nov 30)

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Louisiana
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
• Experience with valve replacement/repair care
• Experience with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
• Experience with Pulmonary Artery (PA) catheter
• Dialysis experience
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Important Notes

• No block scheduling requests allowed
• Must be comfortable with potential emergency team assignments requiring extended onsite presence
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification not required for ICU specialties

This position is suited for experienced critical care RNs comfortable working in a high-acuity SICU environment with flexibility for emergency response assignments.
