Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Charlottesville, Virginia

Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
  • Unit: 24-bed Thoracic Cardiovascular ICU (TCV ICU)
  • Patient Population: Patients undergoing cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgical procedures such as CABG, valve replacement/repair, heart transplantation, and lung transplantation
  • Shift: Days
  • Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday; block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed
  • Hours: 36 or 48 hours offered; maximum 40 hours allowed for time off
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Requirements

  • Licensure: Virginia RN license (can submit with VA license pending)
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS required
  • Experience: Must have Epic electronic health record experience
  • Policies: Must adhere to UVA’s float policy

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks: 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually; includes education verification, sex offender registry, and other facility-specific checks
  • Education Verification: BSN preferred; ASN required if BSN not held; official transcripts required (photocopies not accepted)
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands, updated annually
    • Immunizations and titers including Tdap, TB (2-step PPD or Qgold), Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and seasonal flu vaccination (no exemptions or declinations accepted)
    • Drug testing within 2 months of start, updated annually (10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl)
  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology competency and other facility-required competency exams
  • Pass/Fail Testing: Basic cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
  • Facility Specific Forms: Professional appearance guidelines, release authorization, TB screening, traveler compliance, fit testing acknowledgment, latex allergy questionnaire (if applicable), and others to be completed prior to start

Certifications (as applicable)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification, CHEMO certification, CPI (for Behavioral Health nurses), and others depending on unit assignment

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Candidates must be prepared for a fast-paced critical care environment in a specialized cardiovascular ICU.
  • Block scheduling is not available; scheduling includes every other weekend and holiday coverage.
  • Float policy adherence is mandatory.
