Job Description
- Must have NICU and PICU experience (hard stop).
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Adult Critical Care, PICU, and NICU settings performing:
- Blood gas lab procedures and diagnostic testing.
- Obtaining, analyzing, and recording blood gas results.
- Quality control and preventative maintenance on blood gas equipment.
- Application and management of mechanical and non-invasive ventilation.
- Acting as a consultant to nursing, ancillary, and medical staff regarding respiratory care.
- Providing education and consultation to patients, families, staff, and physicians.
- Assisting or performing advanced procedures such as intubations, bronchoscopy, and tracheostomy.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Florida Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license.
- BCLS certification.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
- BLS (Basic Life Support).
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
- ALS (Advanced Life Support).
Experience Requirements
- Specialty years of experience: At least 1 year in Adult Critical Care, PICU, and NICU settings.
- Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required.
Additional Requirements
- Locals accepted within a 60-mile radius.
- Must maintain all required certifications current and valid.
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
Candidates must complete and maintain the following:
Background Checks
- Background check within 6 months of start, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks including all aliases.
Health & Safety
- Physical exam within 6 months of start, signed by DO, MD, NP, APRN, or PA.
- Negative QuantiFERON TB test within 6 months (TSPOT and PPD not accepted).
- Annual TB questionnaire.
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
- Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
- Annual fit mask test with approved masks (3M 1860 Regular or Small).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
- COVID vaccination preferred (tracking only).

- Broward Health Clinical/Online Orientation Module (annual).
- Annual Risk Management Course Module.
- General Compliance & Ethics Training Module.
- Code of Conduct Module.
- Comprehensive Emergency Management Education Module.
- Preventing & Reporting Workplace Harassment Module.
- ER (Emergency Room) and ICU specific modules as applicable.
- Additional nursing-specific modules including:
- Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace
- Handling Hazardous Drugs
- Clinical Reference Guides
- Dysphagia and Aspiration Precautions
- Stroke and Stroke Core Measures Review
- Nurses' Guide to Safely Administering IV Medication
- End of Life Care
- Procedural Sedation Adults and Pediatrics
- Compressed Gas Cylinder Safety (for OR and Perioperative areas)
- Formaldehyde Course (for OR and Perioperative areas)
- Laser Safety (OR Nurses only)
- PPE Donning and Doffing for COVID-19 (Nursing and Respiratory)
Documentation
- Government-issued photo ID (carried during hours of service).
- I9 and E-Verify documentation.
- Proof of name change affidavits (if applicable).
- Fingerprinting: Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint results required prior to start, valid within 30 days of start, renewed every 5 years.
- Professional references: 2 professional references from within the last 2 years required for all candidates with direct patient contact.
Summary
This is a travel contract opportunity for a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least 1 year of critical care experience including NICU and PICU. The role requires multiple certifications and compliance with extensive background, health, and training requirements specific to Broward Health in Florida. Prior travel experience is not required. Local candidates within 60 miles are also considered.
