Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool - Registered Nurse
Location: Towson, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 07:30)
Schedule: Every 3rd weekend required (Friday & Saturday shifts, plus some Fridays)
Holidays: Required as scheduled
Floating: Required within specialty and Mother-Child Health (MCH) as needed
On Call: Not required
Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients
Unit Description:
- General medical-surgical pediatric unit with 5 inpatient beds
- Pediatric Emergency Department managed daily from 12pm-12am with 5 beds
- Patient diagnoses primarily include respiratory issues, NICU step-down, gastrointestinal illnesses, and infections
- Also admits simple medical-surgical adults up to age 65 to support bed flow
- 24/7 in-house pediatrician hospitalist and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner support
- Facility includes a Level III NICU
EHR System: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Maryland
- Minimum 1 year of recent Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
Health and Compliance Requirements
Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal history within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification for highest level completed
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
Health Screenings and Immunizations:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol, updated annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required for units working with children
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required for the 2025-26 season
- COVID vaccine not required for this location, but documentation or declination collected for tracking
- Required immunizations or positive titers for: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel plus Fentanyl) within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year of start
Additional Facility-Specific Documents:
- Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)
- Confidentiality agreement and IT confidentiality agreement (must be signed prior to start)
- Respiratory Protection Questionnaire (must be completed and signed by a medical professional)
- Badge application (must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract)
- Dress code review prior to start
- Medical flu declination form if applicable (must be signed by physician)
- Latex allergy questionnaire
Competencies and Training
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score 80% or higher)
- Age-specific competency exam (score 80% or higher)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (score 80% or higher)
- Color blind testing
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training as applicable
- Epic training: Eligible candidates may test out of Epic training based on prior experience; otherwise, full training required
Notes
- Block scheduling cannot be accommodated; special scheduling requests must be submitted at application
- Floating may include assignments within specialty and Mother-Child Health units
- This is a night shift position with a fixed schedule and weekend requirements
- On-call duties are not part of this assignment
