Registered Nurse – MS/Tele Float (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Duration: 26 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Float nurse position covering Medical-Surgical and Telemetry units.
- Must be proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
- High volume of peripheral nerve catheters on orthopedic floors.
- Float within scope to meet facility needs.
- Split 12-hour shifts into 8 hours in one area and 4 hours in another; requires strong time management skills.
- Patient ratios typically 1:4-5.
- Facility requires working 2 major holidays; only 1 major holiday off allowed (no Christmas off).
- Weekend work required every other weekend; flexibility requested.
- Facility uses Epic for charting (mandatory).
- Scrub color: any solid color; light blue scrubs provided on unit.
- Locals accepted; pending licenses accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State.
- Minimum of 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, with telemetry experience within the last year.
- At least one completed travel nursing assignment.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current ACLS certification.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
- Experience with high volume of peripheral nerve catheters.
- Orthopedics nursing experience.
- Stroke patient care experience.
Background and Screening Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including nationwide, sex offender, and state-specific searches.
- Education verification required.
- National and state-level exclusions and sanctions checks (OIG, SAM).
- WA WATCH search required.
- Drug screening within past 12 months (instant acceptable).
- Two professional references required.
- Photo for badge (professional, waist-up, clear lighting, no hats).
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year (not required by facility but required by agency).
- Mask fit test within 12 months (specific mask models required).
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination on file.
- Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive TB history.
- Annual TB questionnaire required.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer or declination; vaccine series plus confirmatory titer required)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31).
- COVID vaccination or declination required for tracking.
- Suicide prevention training required for multi-state licensed nurses working in WA (6-hour course).
Facility and Orientation Notes
- Magnet, teaching, Level I trauma facility.
- Acute care float pool covers acute care, telemetry, behavioral health, and respite units.
- Orientation includes pass/fail testing; failure results in cancellation.
- No block scheduling accommodations.
- Parking available onsite and offsite (fees apply).
- Multiple facility-specific documents and acknowledgments required (e.g., job description, equipment safety, policies, license acknowledgment).
Additional Information
- Manager prefers to avoid travel pairs.
- Candidates must complete all fingerprinting and licensing requirements timely to maintain active status.
- Candidates must complete required facility-specific forms and acknowledgments prior to or at orientation.
- Candidates should be prepared for a fill-in-the-blank tele test at orientation.
- Candidates must be flexible and able to work all scheduled shifts; no exceptions for scheduling requests outside approved time off.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong telemetry and medical-surgical float skills, comfortable with high-acuity patients and complex cardiac monitoring.
