Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position at a Magnet, Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least one prior travel contract and strong ortho/neuro/cardiac skills.

Details

  • 26-week contract with day shift hours (0700-1930), three 12-hour shifts per week
  • Float pool position covering all acute care and telemetry units, including Behavioral Health and Respite
  • Patient population includes ortho/trauma, neuro/stroke, cardiac telemetry, post-cardiac procedures, and endocrine/metabolic cases
  • Shift may be split into an 8-hour block on one unit and a 4-hour block on another, requiring strong time management skills
  • Patient ratio of 1:4-5
  • Floating required throughout the hospital to meet facility needs
  • Every other weekend required; candidates are asked to remain flexible with scheduling
  • No on-call required
  • Block scheduling is not available
  • Charting system: Epic (required)
  • Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction

Requirements

  • Active WA RN license or compact RN license currently in hand or pending proof required
  • Minimum 2 years of MS/Tele or stepdown RN experience, specifically in a Level I or Level II Trauma setting
  • At least one prior travel nursing contract required; first-time travelers are not eligible
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
  • BSN preferred
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Proficiency in interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias required — a pass/fail fill-in-the-blank telemetry exam will be administered at orientation
  • Titration of insulin drips required
  • Strong ortho and neuro skills required
  • Two professional references required for consideration; supervisory references preferred
  • COVID vaccination and booster required
  • Prior UW Health system staff must have an 18-month separation from the facility before being considered

Additional Information

  • Care for a diverse acute care patient population across MS/tele, ortho, neuro/stroke, cardiac, and behavioral health units
  • High volume of peripheral nerve catheter management on ortho floors
  • Candidates must be proficient in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, CVA care, and pre/post neurosurgery and cardiac surgical care
  • Solid-color scrubs required; light blue scrubs are provided on unit
  • RTO is not permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment; RTO should otherwise be kept to a minimum
  • Holiday RTO restriction: travelers must work two of three major holidays (Christmas RTO is not permitted)
  • Pre-start orientation modules are required (approximately 6-8 hours, completed prior to start date)
  • Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma experience preferred
  • Trauma Level II experience required; Level I experience preferred
