Physicist – Radiation Therapy (Days)

Job Summary

Seeking a Radiation Physicist responsible for performing all medical physics tasks necessary for the safe and accurate delivery of therapeutic ionizing radiation. This role involves collaboration with radiation oncologists and clinical staff to ensure treatment quality and regulatory compliance. The position is primarily on-site with potential for one day per week remote work.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and review policies and procedures to ensure proper functioning and safe operation of therapeutic equipment, including accelerators and brachytherapy devices.
• Perform daily output and quality assessment checks on radiation-producing equipment.
• Conduct clinical quality assurance, acceptance testing, commissioning, and calibration of new and repaired clinical equipment.
• Oversee technical aspects of dosimetrists’ and therapists’ activities.
• Participate in Intraoperative Electron Radiation Therapy (IOeRT) treatments and perform QA procedures prior to treatments.
• Assist dosimetry in treatment planning for External Beam, Stereotactic Radiosurgery, and Brachytherapy.
• Collaborate with radiation oncologists and technical staff to optimize treatment plans.
• Perform treatment planning for High Dose Rate treatments and monitor patients during treatment.
• Evaluate and implement updates to treatment planning software, radiation calculation, measurement, and record/verification systems.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Master of Science in Medical Physics, Physics, or related field (required)
• Doctorate in Medical Physics or related discipline (preferred)

Experience

• Completed residency within the past 5 years (required)
• 3-5 years clinical experience preferred

Licenses/Certifications

• Board Certified Radiation Therapy Physicist by the American Board of Medical Physicists (required)
• Board Certified Radiation Therapy Physicist by the American Board of Radiology (required)
• Eligibility to be an Authorized Medical Physicist by the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (highly preferred)
• Certification by the American Board of Radiology or equivalent in therapeutic Medical Physics required within 3 years of hire (preferred)
