Registered Nurse (RN) – Float Pool (MS-Telemetry)

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts)
Contract Length: 21 weeks

Unit and Patient Population

• Float pool covers multiple units including General MS-Telemetry and specialties such as Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Orthopedics, Trauma, and ED Observation.
• Patient population primarily adults to geriatrics with diagnoses including cardiac, neuro, ortho, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery post-appendectomy, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, general medicine, and stable long-term placement patients.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:5-6 depending on acuity.
• Nurse aides available with a ratio of 1:12.
• Respiratory therapy equipment present (vents, CPAP, BiPAP).

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license.
• Must have at least 2 years of MS-Telemetry nursing experience within the last 3 years.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Preferred: prior neuro experience, familiarity with Alaris infusion pumps, and EPIC electronic health record system.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Responsible for titrating heparin drips.
• May be asked to float mid-shift or between acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds within skillset), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele units.
• May also float into CNA/Sitter roles if census is low to ensure hours are met.

Scheduling and Work Expectations

• 12-hour night shifts, approximately 36 hours per week.
• Schedule created by leadership for 6 weeks at a time; travelers must be flexible to fill gaps in permanent staffing.
• Weekend requirement: 6-9 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule.
• May be asked to participate in holiday rotation.
• Call or standby is rare and only for low census situations.
• All time off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment.

Orientation and Training

• 1-2 days unit-specific orientation with a preceptor.
• Week of orientation requires clinician to be in-state, even if some modules are remote.

Additional Information

• Float zone covers a 60-mile radius; travel between multiple hospitals within this zone is required.
• Travelers are responsible for securing housing that allows for this travel requirement.
• Dress code: any color scrub.
• Charge nurses are designated on each unit and typically do not take patient assignments unless necessary, more common on night shifts.

This position is ideal for experienced MS-Telemetry RNs comfortable with floating across multiple specialties and acuity levels within a large geographic zone.
