Registered Nurse (ICU)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts (0630-1830, 1830-0630)
Hours Guaranteed: 36 hours per week

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Medical-Surgical ICU
• Number of Beds: 34
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • ICU: 1:1-2
  • PCU: 1:4-5
  • Med Surg: 1:5-6
• Patient Population: Adults and pediatrics over 15 years old
• Common Diagnoses:

  • Neuro surgery (experience not required)
  • Respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke
  • Cardiogenic shock (Impella, balloon pump - experience not required)
  • Renal failure (CRRT - experience not required)
  • General surgery, psych/overdose, GI bleeds
  • Cancer-specific surgeries (esophagectomy, internal chemo administration)
• Equipment & Monitoring:

  • CVPs, Arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, EV-1000, ICP monitoring (training provided)
  • Zoll Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol
  • Bell Mont rapid transfuser
  • Respiratory equipment: nasal cannula to ventilators (RNs troubleshoot)
  • Telemetry: Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; RNs must read and interpret strips (no telemetry techs)
• Drip Management: RNs required to titrate vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, antiarrhythmics
• Charge Nurse: Present on each shift, attends RRTs and Codes
• Support Staff: Patient care techs with ratio 1:18

Scheduling & Requirements

• Scheduling: Manager-created schedule based on unit needs (no self-scheduling)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other holiday, based on unit needs
• Floating: Required to float to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
• Orientation: 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs

Required Qualifications

• Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years recent ICU experience
• Certifications:

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Licensure: Valid RN license for Nebraska
• Additional:

  • Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation
  • Artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas (non-compliance may lead to contract termination)
  • Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate location within 50-mile radius
  • Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with certain affiliated health systems within the radius
