Registered Nurse (ICU)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts (0630-1830, 1830-0630)
Hours Guaranteed: 36 hours per week
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Medical-Surgical ICU
- Number of Beds: 34
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- ICU: 1:1-2
- PCU: 1:4-5
- Med Surg: 1:5-6
- Patient Population: Adults and pediatrics over 15 years old
- Common Diagnoses:
- Neuro surgery (experience not required)
- Respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke
- Cardiogenic shock (Impella, balloon pump - experience not required)
- Renal failure (CRRT - experience not required)
- General surgery, psych/overdose, GI bleeds
- Cancer-specific surgeries (esophagectomy, internal chemo administration)
- Equipment & Monitoring:
- CVPs, Arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, EV-1000, ICP monitoring (training provided)
- Zoll Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol
- Bell Mont rapid transfuser
- Respiratory equipment: nasal cannula to ventilators (RNs troubleshoot)
- Telemetry: Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; RNs must read and interpret strips (no telemetry techs)
- Drip Management: RNs required to titrate vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, antiarrhythmics
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift, attends RRTs and Codes
- Support Staff: Patient care techs with ratio 1:18
Scheduling & Requirements
- Scheduling: Manager-created schedule based on unit needs (no self-scheduling)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other holiday, based on unit needs
- Floating: Required to float to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
- Orientation: 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
Required Qualifications
- Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years recent ICU experience
- Certifications:
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Licensure: Valid RN license for Nebraska
- Additional:
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation
- Artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas (non-compliance may lead to contract termination)
- Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate location within 50-mile radius
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with certain affiliated health systems within the radius

- Team-oriented environment collaborating with attendings, fellows, residents, and student providers
- Successful nurses demonstrate critical thinking, positive attitude, willingness to help, and strong communication skills
Additional Notes
- Rapid turnaround time required for submission (7 days or less for the 13-week contract)
- Radius rule strictly enforced to ensure candidate proximity and non-affiliation with restricted facilities
