Job Details

  • Hours per Day: 12
  • Hours per Week: 48
  • Unit Beds: 31
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Days: 1:4-5
    • Nights: 1:5-6
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: As needed
  • Call/Standby: None
  • Floating: May float to other MedSurg units, occasional ER holds; no mom/baby float
  • Orientation: 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation on the floor
  • Dress Code: No specific scrub color required; scrubs not provided

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

  • Adults and geriatrics
  • Stroke patients (stroke unit, some acute, excluding thrombectomies)
  • Hypertension (HTN)
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Cellulitis
  • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
  • Atrial Fibrillation (non-RVR)
  • Chest pain and post-MI care (after ICU)
  • Altered mental status/behavioral health
  • Some telemetry patients
  • Surgical overflow (excluding joint or cranial surgeries)
  • Oncology patients requiring chemotherapy administration (no oncology provider on site during the day)

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Administer chemotherapy as core staff
  • Titrate drips (e.g., Lasix, Heparin); Lasix experience preferred but not required
  • Manage stable BiPAP and established tracheostomies with blow-by oxygen
  • Use telemetry packs; monitor techs handle strip reading and interpretation
  • Charge Nurse available on each shift as a resource; usually no assignment unless staffing need arises
  • Work alongside nurse aides/patient care techs (ratio 1:8)

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license appropriate for North Dakota
  • BLS Certification required
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • Experience with tracheostomy and BiPAP preferred but not mandatory
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome; prior travel experience is not required
  • Ability to titrate drips is required

Additional Information

  • Scheduling is managed by the unit manager; block scheduling may be considered if unit needs are met
  • Strong unit culture focused on teamwork and family-oriented support for travelers
  • Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related facilities within the health system
  • Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals after submission
