Location: Farmington, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

Backfill position in a Level III Trauma Center Emergency Department
48 beds with flex space; patient ratios: 4:1 in Main ED, 6:1 in Fast Track
Shift: 7 PM – 7 AM
Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
Minimum of two weekends scheduled per contract
No call requirements
Team nursing and Pod System model
Social worker assigned to department and unit educator available
Electronic Health Record system: Cerner

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), Cirrhosis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), psychiatric and substance abuse disorders
Common presenting complaints: abdominal pain, chest pain, stroke, sepsis, STEMI, trauma, moderate sedation cases

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Certifications from the American Heart Association:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
Experience with trauma, stroke, STEMI, sepsis, and moderate sedation

Equipment & Technology

Zoll Defibrillator
Level One Blood Transfuser
QinFlow Blood Warmer
Hospira Plum360 infusion pump
Freestyle and iSTAT point-of-care testing devices
Ultrasound-guided IV placement

Additional Information

No float requirements
Emergency Department uses a team nursing and pod system
Patient population includes adult and pediatric patients with complex medical and behavioral health needs
Located in a scenic area with access to outdoor activities and national parks

Pros

Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.

Cons

It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
