Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with Telemetry specialty for night shifts on a cardiac telemetry unit. This is a fast-paced, high-acuity environment caring for patients with cardiac, respiratory, renal, and other complex medical conditions.
Shift Details
- Shift: Nights (19:00 - 07:30)
- Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 hours (must be specified on submission)
- Weekend Hours: Every other weekend as required
- Call: None
- Orientation: Night shift orientation occurs during day shift; availability for full orientation week required
Unit Information
- Unit Type: Cardiac Telemetry
- Number of Beds: 32
- Patient Ratios (Nights): Approximately 1:6 to 1:8
- Patient Types: CHF, chest pain, arrhythmias (AFib, flutter, SVT), respiratory, renal, hemodialysis, sepsis, urology, surgical, withdrawal protocols, isolation, GI bleeds
- Equipment: Lift equipment, bladder scanner, interpreter iPad, BiPAP monitoring
- EMR System: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry nursing experience in an inpatient setting within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Tikosyn and Sotalol initiation
- Familiarity with dopamine, dobutamine, lidocaine, nitro, milrinone drips
- Experience managing chest tubes, other drains, and CIWA (withdrawal) protocols
Job Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments
- Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
- Work within the scope of nursing practice and applicable state regulations
- Assist with patient mobility including lifting and turning with assistance
- Adhere to facility policies and professional standards
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Stand and walk most of the shift
- Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients (up to 50 lbs push/pull/grip, 15 lbs pinch)
- Ability to work varying schedules and shifts as needed
- Exposure to blood and body fluids
Dress Code
- Scrubs: Black tops and pants
- Undershirts/long sleeves allowed in black, white, yellow, green, red, or blue
- Medical/scrub jackets permitted
- No other attire allowed
Additional Notes
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for travel nurses from November 1 to April 1 (no declinations accepted)
- Float to similar or lower acuity units as needed
- Compassionate, empathetic, team-oriented attitude with strong attention to detail is essential
