Job Summary

Provide professional nursing care to a group of patients using the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources. Responsible for patient safety, assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation within the neurological medical/surgical specialty.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform all unit-specific nursing duties within scope of practice.
• Complete initial patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Implement and modify nursing interventions based on ongoing patient evaluation.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
• Administer medications following the "5 Rights" (Right Patient, Medication, Route, Dose, Time).
• Ensure patient safety through fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and safe ambulation.
• Conduct bedside shift reports including patient input and safety checks.
• Delegate tasks to healthcare team members and validate completion.
• Perform hourly rounding and respond promptly to patient call lights.
• Use critical thinking to identify and respond to neurological changes or seizure activity.
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
• Provide care for patients with mild to severe brain injury due to stroke, trauma, or surgery.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Minimum 3 years of Med Surg nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Ability to respond effectively to seizure activity
