Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to a group of patients during a designated time frame. Responsibilities include utilizing the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources to deliver quality care within the institution’s philosophy.

Key Responsibilities

Perform all unit-specific nursing duties within the scope of service.
Implement procedures and theories related to labor and delivery nursing practice.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
Complete initial patient assessments upon admission and develop appropriate plans of care based on patient and family needs.
Implement and modify plans of care and nursing interventions as needed.
Ensure patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards and incidents.
Communicate effectively with healthcare team members to resolve issues.
Provide constructive feedback to peers and engage in professional development.
Identify personal learning needs and pursue appropriate solutions.
Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.

Department-Specific Functions:

Provide care to inpatient obstetric patients.
Monitor fetal well-being.
Administer medications specific to obstetric patients.
Provide patient education tailored to the obstetric population.
Participate in intrapartum care of patients and newborns during labor, delivery, and surgical delivery.

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
Minimum of 3 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
