Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Location: Urbana, Illinois

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to a group of patients during a designated time frame. Responsibilities include utilizing the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources to deliver quality care within the institution’s philosophy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all unit-specific nursing duties within the scope of service.
  • Implement procedures and theories related to labor and delivery nursing practice.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
  • Complete initial patient assessments upon admission and develop appropriate plans of care based on patient and family needs.
  • Implement and modify plans of care and nursing interventions as needed.
  • Ensure patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards and incidents.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members to resolve issues.
  • Provide constructive feedback to peers and engage in professional development.
  • Identify personal learning needs and pursue appropriate solutions.
  • Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.

Department-Specific Functions:

  • Provide care to inpatient obstetric patients.
  • Monitor fetal well-being.
  • Administer medications specific to obstetric patients.
  • Provide patient education tailored to the obstetric population.
  • Participate in intrapartum care of patients and newborns during labor, delivery, and surgical delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum of 3 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
