Job Opportunity: Cath Lab Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Escondido, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- This is a travel/contract position with no local candidates accepted.
- The role involves backfilling for a temporary position.
- Call requirements include weekdays and weekends on a rotation basis.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 3 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Cerner electronic charting system
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID with address (front and back copies required).
- Background checks within 30 days of start, including:
- 7-year county and national criminal search
- Sex offender search
- FACIS Level 3 (includes OIG/GSA)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check (monthly updates required)
- HHS/OIG check (every 30 days during assignment)
- NURSYS verification of RN license within 30 days of start.
- Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days prior to start (9-panel rapid accepted).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, PA, or NP, confirming good health and free of communicable diseases.
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start (annual renewal required for direct hires).
- Immunization or titer proof for:
- Measles (Rubeola) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Mumps – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Rubella – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B – vaccination series, positive titer, or declination
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- TB screening within 1 year of start (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) and annual updates; TB questionnaire annually if past positive.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination form required annually by October 31.
- COVID vaccination preferred; if unvaccinated, facility-specific declination required.
- Badge photo with white background and shoulders included (no selfies).
- Employment application and 2 professional references from a manager, supervisor, or charge RN within the last 3 years.
- Skills checklist updated annually.
Competency & Training Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with an 80% pass rate, completed within 12 months of start.
- Unit specialty competency exam with an 80% pass rate, completed within 12 months of start.
- Core training parts I, II, and III with 80% or above, updated annually.
- Pass/fail arrhythmia exam prior to start for applicable units including Cath Lab.
- Cardiac rhythms course assigned via LMS platform, requiring 100% pass rate with only 2 attempts allowed.
Additional Notes
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification is not required for this position.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is preferred but not mandatory.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP), and Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certifications are not required for this specialty.
- Chemotherapy certification required only if applicable.
- Orientation includes HIPAA acknowledgment and pass/fail testing acknowledgment.
This position is ideal for experienced Cath Lab RNs seeking a 13-week travel assignment with day shifts and a structured call rotation.
