Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU
Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Unit and Experience Details
- Unit: Head, Neck, and Plastics
- Floating required
- Weekend coverage required
- Experience required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
- PCU and Telemetry experience required
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted
- Prior travel experience not required
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Certification (NIHSS)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, CPI)
- Certification renewals must be planned if expiring during contract
Required Licenses
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Kentucky
- NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
- License renewal plan required if expiring during contract
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 1 year, updated annually
- County and national criminal background checks
- Sex offender search
- Education verification or signed official transcript/diploma
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated annually
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year, signed by MD, NP, or PA
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray and TB questionnaire annually if positive history
- Immunity or vaccination for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Drug testing within 1 year, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required annually (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
- COVID vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
Competency and Skills Testing
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 1 year, passing score required
- Color blind testing via online platform within 1 year
- Unit-specific competency exams annually
- RN Math ability competency exam annually
- Pass/Fail EKG exam required for PCU/Stepdown and other critical care units
- Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing for ICU, ER, PACU, Telemetry, and other units
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references verified within 6 months of start (preferably manager or supervisor)
- Employment application with explanation for any gaps over 30 days
- Employment verification for 7 years required, completed 8 business days prior to start
- Skills checklists updated annually and valid through contract period
- Various facility-specific non-clinical agreements and policies must be signed prior to start
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Telemetry experience
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Notes
- Renewal plans must be in place for any expiring certifications, licenses, or documents during the contract
- Candidates must comply with all testing and documentation deadlines to maintain clearance
- Floating and weekend coverage are mandatory for this position
