Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts
  • Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Every other weekend required
  • Some holidays required
  • No on-call duties

Unit & Specialty

  • Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Experience with Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable areas preferred
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience required
  • Must pass a Telemetry test prior to start

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum of 1 year of CVICU experience, with recent experience within the last year
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

Testing & Competency Requirements

  • Telemetry test (Adult or Pediatric depending on unit) with strict passing criteria:
    • Minimum 80% overall score
    • 100% in lethal rhythms subcategory
    • 100% on 3rd degree heart block questions
  • Candidates allowed up to 3 attempts with remediation required after 2nd failure
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check (BID Form) mandatory and time-sensitive
  • Education verification as applicable
  • Drug screening required to meet standard clinical candidate requirements
  • Physical exam recommended to meet agency standards (not facility-mandated)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Tuberculosis (TB) testing: IGRA blood test or two-step skin test with documentation
  • Annual TB Questionnaire required
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR): 2 doses or positive titers; medical/religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation
  • Varicella: 2 doses or positive titer; medical/religious exemptions accepted
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series with positive titer or facility-specific declination form if declined
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season (09/22 – 04/13)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof required
  • Meningococcal vaccine or declination required if working in Microbiology department

Documentation & Orientation

  • Photo for badge (passport-style, no selfies or headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
  • Signed acknowledgment of Orientation Safety Manual and Pass/Fail Telemetry Testing
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required
  • Two clinical references within the last 3 years (agency standard)

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
