Histology Tech - Travel/Contract

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Laboratory (Histology)
• Shift: Night shift, Sunday through Thursday, 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Occasional weekend work required
• No on-call duties
• No floating required
• Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Job Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex histologic procedures including processing, embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains, and immunohistochemistry
• Conduct quality control on completed slides
• Identify issues that may affect diagnosis and results
• Record observations from tests and document maintenance of lab instruments and equipment
• Comply with established laboratory policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Histology Technologist, including experience within the last year
• Proficient in embedding and microtomy skills
• Certification: BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Certification: HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC)

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in histotechnology, biology, or related scientific discipline
• Quality Improvement in Healthcare Certification (QIHC)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Copy of Driver’s License and Social Security Card required
• Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• Education verification required; diploma or transcripts preferred as placeholder if needed
• State license primary source verification required (active, unencumbered)
• Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
• 10-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start (no instant tests)
• Annual TB questionnaire and recent negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if previously positive
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Tdap (within 10 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
• COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
• Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Mar 31) with documentation uploaded before deadline
• Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
• Passport-style badge photo required before start
• Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
• Proof of 2 clinical references and complete employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam and color blindness test required prior to start

Additional Notes

• Travelers should be aware of possible emergency response assignments during hurricane season (June through November, peak in August and September)
• Radius rule: 60 miles; local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis
• Radiation badge not required for this position
