Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – CVICU (Cardiac ICU) – Night Shift – Columbus, Ohio


Position Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each; 19:00 to 7:30)
  • Hours per Week: 36 hours
  • Schedule: Weekdays and some weekends; rotating holidays
  • Weekend Shifts: Up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Saturday/Sunday for dayshift, Friday/Saturday for nightshift)
  • Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Patient Ratios: Estimated 1:1 to 1:2

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • IV start capability
  • Swan-Ganz catheter management
  • Conscious sedation administration
  • Intra-aortic balloon pump operation
  • Pulmonary artery (PA) line management
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system

Contract Length

  • Approximately 13 weeks

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documents:
    • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Annual TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low titer
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles (valid for entire assignment length)
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and annually
  • Background check and license verifications must be current and uploaded within specified timeframes

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start (with remediation process if failed)
  • NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit (must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years)
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for stroke education required annually for nurses working in stroke-capable areas

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
  • Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates
  • Skills checklist required
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually

Parking

  • Parking permits available for purchase (costs and options subject to change)
  • Options include 24/7 garage access and shuttle service for weekend/holiday access
