Job Opportunity: Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician

Location: Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Shift: Overnight, 40 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Perform accurate and precise laboratory testing to assist in patient care in a timely manner.
• Conduct laboratory tests following established procedures in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
• Utilize good blood collection techniques including venipuncture, capillary, and pediatric collections.
• Review test results and logs for technical or clerical errors.
• Generate complete and accurate laboratory reports.
• Verify, report, and document alarm values promptly.
• Participate in Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) studies as needed.
• Perform and review Quality Control values.
• Maintain inventory of technical supplies.
• Conduct and document daily and periodic maintenance and calibrations of laboratory instruments.
• Troubleshoot and document instrument problems; use hotline support and call-in service when necessary.
• Assist colleagues with their duties as needed and demonstrate flexibility with changes in duties, calls, and shifts during emergencies.
• Maintain good working relationships with physicians, outside facilities, and the public.
• Work independently with satisfactory attendance and availability for on-call duties.
• Comply with department, hospital policies, OSHA standards, and universal precautions.
• Assist management, pathologists, and leadership as requested.
• Help train and guide new staff technologists.

Required Qualifications

• Medical Laboratory Technician with at least 1 year of experience.
• Medical Laboratory Technician experience within the last year.

Additional Information

• Shared housing is available but requires adherence to housing agreement terms.
• Must have own transportation.
• Flexibility and willingness to assist with various duties and emergency situations are essential.
• Positive PPD results require documentation of a negative chest X-ray (optional but recommended).
• Name change documentation may be required if legal name differs from credential documents.
