Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Neuro Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) with Level 1 Trauma experience. This is a travel contract position requiring flexibility with weekend shifts and the ability to work approximately 50% of weekends during the contract. The unit cares for neuro critical care patients as well as medical, surgical, and trauma ICU patients.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 3 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- Level 1 Trauma experience
- Experience in Charge roles
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and management skills
- Intracranial pressure (ICP) management skills
Important Notes
- Local candidates are not accepted for this travel position.
- Call-in shifts must be made up during the pay period or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status.
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be required with provided training and resources.
- Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (these exceptions include ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including:
- 7-year work/lived history verification
- County, state, national criminal checks
- Sex offender registry
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification and official transcript/diploma
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted)
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent)
- Skills checklist and competency exams within 12 months
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with supervisory titles
- Completion of facility-specific orientation, safety, and compliance forms (time sensitive)
Additional Training Requirements
- Completion of mandatory facility modules prior to orientation (22 modules including Environment of Care, HIPAA, Infection Prevention, Hazardous Drugs, Patient Identification, and Mechanical Ventilation Management)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
- Unit competency exam
Work Environment
- Teaching facility with expectations to precept students or new staff
- Floating to various units may be required
- Neuro ICU with trauma and critical care patient population
This position is ideal for experienced Neuro ICU RNs with trauma experience who are comfortable working in a fast-paced, teaching hospital environment and are flexible with scheduling and floating.
