Location: Lafayette, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Overview
- Assignment may include being part of an "Emergency Team" with expectations to stay onsite during emergency events or serve on relief teams.
- Unit accepts first-time travelers; however, first-time travelers must have 3 years NICU experience.
- Previous travelers require 2 years NICU experience.
- Average daily census: 30 patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3
- Floating assignments to mother-baby and pediatrics units
- Weekend coverage every other weekend
- Experience with Epic electronic health records required
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required for Labor & Delivery (L&D)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for Pediatrics, ER, PACU, PICU
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Required unless working in ICU
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Check unit description for requirement
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - AWONN Intermediate required for L&D nurses
Required Licenses
- Active Louisiana RN license or Compact RN license required upon submission
- License must be current or in renewal process prior to start date
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Louisiana
- Minimum 2 years of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) experience
- NICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Experience with Epic electronic health records
Additional Requirements
- Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy)
- Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, and education verification as applicable
- Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
- Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap (for ED, Pediatrics, Mother/Baby, NICU)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Skills checklist and competency exams updated annually
- Photo for badge (passport-style, recent, plain background)
Work Environment Notes
- Floating to mother-baby and pediatric units may be required
- Weekend coverage every other weekend
- Emergency team participation may be required during events
This position is suitable for NICU RNs with solid neonatal experience who are comfortable with emergency team assignments and flexible floating duties.
