Job Description
- Position primarily in Emergency Department (ED) holding.
- Must be willing to float to Medical-Surgical (MS) and Telemetry (Tele) units when not utilized in ED holding.
- Responsibilities include:
- Applying evidence-based practice and knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology, and regulatory issues.
- Performing clinical procedures such as IV insertion, Foley catheterization, and wound dressings.
- Providing effective patient and family education.
- Proper use of telemetry monitoring, IV therapy, ventilators, and safe medication administration.
- Recognizing changes in patient condition and acting as patient advocate.
- Working independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Maintaining professional appearance and completing tasks timely.
Shift Details
- Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
- Weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirement
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing
- Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including social security trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug test within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per California law).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (with accommodations considered for religious exemptions or facial hair).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella titers or vaccinations
- Hepatitis B series or declination
- Varicella titer or vaccinations
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually.
- Color vision exam if applicable.
- References: 2 professional references within last 3 years required for clinical positions.
- Full 7 years of work history required on application with verification of employment.
Competency and Testing
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Unit-specific skills checklist, renewed annually.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for Telemetry units.
- ICU RNs may be required to take an onsite EKG exam after start.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Review and sign facility policies including dress code, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, overpayment refund policy, vendor training, and general regulatory orientation prior to start.
- Complete facility-specific attestations and questionnaires including TB screening and conditional offer of employment attestation.
- Photo for badge (passport-style, color, solid background) required for per diem only.
This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department RNs who are flexible to float to MS and Telemetry units and are comfortable working night shifts with weekend rotations. Compliance with extensive background checks, immunizations, certifications, and competency testing is mandatory.
