Job Opportunity: Radiation Therapist
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work hours: 0700 - 1730 (typically 4 days of 10-hour shifts, with some flexibility based on patient volume)
- Unit staffing: Always 2 therapists per machine
- Average daily patient census: 80
- Patient-to-therapist ratio: 1:1
- Upon starting, you may be assigned to an "Emergency Team" with expectations to stay onsite during emergency events or be part of relief efforts. Candidates should be comfortable with this requirement.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiation Therapist license in Louisiana
- Minimum 2 years of Radiation Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- ARRT (Therapy) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or government-issued photo ID (color copy required)
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, education verification, sex offender search, and federal exclusions (must be current and updated as required)
- License verification within 30 days of start; must be active and renewed if expiring within 30 days
- Competency exam specific to specialty, completed within 1 year prior to start, with a minimum score of 80%
- Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (no instant screens)
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (October 1 - April 30)
- Photo for badge: recent, full-color, passport-style photo without obstructions or filters
Additional Notes
- Emergency preparedness training and participation may be required during hurricane season (June 1 - November 30)
- Fit mask testing (N95) required within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Skills checklist and employment application required, including 7 years of employment history and explanations for any gaps
This position is ideal for radiation therapists with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable with emergency response duties and flexible scheduling. First-time travel therapists are welcome to apply.
