Registered Nurse - PCU

Location: Burlington, Vermont
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Description

  • Assignment in a Cardiac Progressive Care Stepdown Unit with Telemetry/Surgical focus.
  • Rotating day/night shifts with every weekend required.
  • Must be willing to float to similar units.
  • Manager may consider candidates without arterial line (A-Line) experience if they have open heart (CABG) post-op day 1 experience.
  • No block schedules allowed.
  • Bi-weekly orientations available on Mondays.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years nursing experience, with at least 1 year in a progressive care or similar unit.
  • Cardiothoracic and vascular experience required.
  • Post-op open or closed heart surgery (day 1) experience required.
  • Large trauma Level 1 experience within the last year.
  • Epic electronic medical record experience within the past 2 years (non-negotiable).
  • Certifications: AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required prior to start; PCCN preferred.
  • Must have reliable transportation (personal or rental vehicle recommended).
  • Must be willing to work Monday through Sunday schedule.

Required Certifications & Verifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA approved.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA approved.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • State RN license verification (primary source within 30 days of start).
  • NURSYS verification (if applicable).
  • Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
  • Education verification as applicable.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam.
  • Color blindness testing.
  • Competency exams as required by specialty.
  • MVR release (if applicable).
  • Photo for badge (passport style, plain background).
  • Auto insurance proof (if applicable).

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • N95 Fit Test (updated annually).
  • Immunizations: Tdap (within 10 years), 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B series or declination, Varicella vaccines or positive titer.
  • TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within past 12 months; chest X-ray if positive.
  • Annual TB questionnaire if positive.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
  • COVID vaccination or declination required.
  • Pneumonia vaccination or declination required if assigned to NY facilities.
  • Drug testing as required.

Additional Information

  • Must explain any employment gaps over 90 days.
  • Complete and accurate work history required (including bed count, EMR, facility type).
  • Public transportation is not accessible; reliable personal transportation is strongly recommended.
  • Must complete EPIC and Cornerstone training modules prior to start.
  • Must complete various facility-specific forms and attestations prior to assignment.
  • References: 2 professional references from assignments within the last 3 years.
  • Skills checklist within 12 months required.
  • Work history verification for the past 2 years required.

Schedule

  • Monday through Sunday coverage.
  • Rotating day and night shifts.
  • Every weekend required.

Prior Travel Experience

  • No explicit prior travel experience required.

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with strong cardiac progressive care and trauma backgrounds, who are comfortable with rotating shifts and weekend work, and who meet the detailed certification and health requirements.
