Job Opportunity: Occupational Therapist - Acute Care Hospital

Location

  • New Orleans, Louisiana

Employment Type

  • Travel / Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Day shift, 5 days per week (8 hours per day, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM)
  • Weekend work required every weekend plus one weekday (varies)
  • Must be able to float to different patient areas

Patient Population & Setting

  • Burn Unit patients with 0-100% Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) burns
  • Patients requiring physical therapy for pain management, surgical dressings, mobility, positioning to prevent contractures and scarring
  • Caseload ranges from 2 to 8 patients per day depending on season
  • Opportunity to assist with outpatient physical therapy evaluations and treatments if time allows

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Occupational Therapist license in Louisiana
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as an Occupational Therapist, including experience within the last year
  • Experience as a Physical Therapist
  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system

Required Licensure & Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment; verify prior to start

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID matching all documentation
  • Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; must include social security trace, nationwide and county checks, sex offender registry, federal databases; updated annually
  • Employment eligibility verification (I-9/E-Verify)
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or as specified)
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations accepted with proper documentation)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
    • Annual TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) with exemptions accepted
  • Physical exam within 12 months (not required by facility but may be required by placement agency)
  • Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests with minimum passing scores
  • Facility-specific policies including employee appearance and crisis prevention training may apply

Additional Information

  • Scrubs provided by facility
  • Must be flexible to float within patient care areas as needed

This position is ideal for Occupational Therapists with at least one year of experience who are interested in travel assignments and have experience or interest in burn rehabilitation. First-time travel therapists are welcome to apply.
