Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Houlton, Maine Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: 13 weeks

Schedule

• Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts, 19:00 to 7:00
• 48 hours per week
• No call

Patient Assignment

• Average daily census: 21
• Swing patients: about 25% of assignments
• Typical staffing: 1:5, which may become 1:6 when there are many swing patients
• No ICU at the facility, but patients are sometimes more acute than typical Med-Surg
• High volume of swing bed patients

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Maine
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Med Surg experience
• Stepdown (3 years of experience)
• Stepdown experience within the last year
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Government-issued photo ID
• Competency exam, including medication test/pharmacology, with a passing score (Angoff score or equivalent)

Preferred

• Tdap or Td vaccine within 10 years of start

Health and Compliance

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required to be updated annually)
• Negative TB screening within 1 year of start: 2 PPDs (the second within 3 months of start), or an IGRA in place of PPDs
• Negative chest X-ray required for positive TB results
• Annual TB questionnaire
• MMR titer or 2 boosters required for measles, mumps, and rubella
• Hepatitis B titer or 3-dose series required
• Varicella titer or 2 boosters required
• 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start
• Flu vaccine on file by the start of flu season (begins 12/1). Declinations are not accepted; only medical exemptions with a doctor's note are considered.

Background Checks

• Standard background check, updated annually (7-year search)
• HHS/OIG and EPLS/SAM checks, completed annually

References

• 2 professional references (travel, allied, or per diem acute care) within 2 years of start
