Job Opportunity: LVN / LPN - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Shift: 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed
• Charting System: EPIC experience required
• Floating: Required to float within skillset
• Accepts First-Time Travelers: Yes
• Locals Accepted: Yes, for LPNs

Licenses & Certifications

• Active New York Single State LPN license required (NY is not Compact)
• BLS certification required
• Additional certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Experience Requirements

• Specialty Experience: Acute Care experience within the last 2 years
• Must be able to take own patient assignment with RN support
• Prior travel experience is not required

Clinical Skills Required

• Vital signs, pain assessment, intake/output monitoring
• Isolation precautions, physical restraints, specimen labeling
• Oxygen administration via nasal cannula
• Feeding tube management
• Telemetry monitoring, 12-lead EKG
• Medication administration (oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear and eye drops)
• IV therapy with pumps
• Blood glucose monitoring
• Basic wound care (simple dressings, JP/Hemovac drains)
• Bathing and mouth care
• Foley catheter insertion (male/female)
• Clean catch urine collection
• Communication of status changes to RN/MD
• Experience in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry care setting

Unit Details

• Patient population includes medical patients with COPD exacerbation, infections, failure to thrive, and social issues
• Nurse-to-patient ratio during day shift: 1:5-6
• Scrub color: Any combination of navy blue and white

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government issued photo ID required
• 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and run monthly
• Education verification from primary source required
• Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Drug screening within 30 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
• Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
• References, employment application, skills checklist, and work history verification required
• State-specific documents such as NYS Nurse Aide Registry and criminal background fingerprinting may be required depending on unit

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for an LPN with acute care experience in a medical-surgical/telemetry setting. The position requires night shifts with every other weekend and holiday coverage. Candidates must have an active NY LPN license and BLS certification, with EPIC charting experience. First-time travelers are welcome, and locals are accepted. Compliance with extensive background checks, health screenings, and immunizations is mandatory.
