Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse

Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position in Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Must have ECMO experience
  • Will float to cardiac stepdown unit
  • Average daily census: 7 patients
  • Unit size: 10 beds
  • Patient ratio: 1:2
  • Float required to units of equal or lesser acuity
  • Documentation system: Epic

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one prior travel assignment
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ECMO experience
  • Experience caring for patients with multisystem organ failure
  • Intra-aortic balloon pump experience
  • Pulmonary artery line (Swan-Ganz) monitoring
  • Arterial line management
  • PICC line management
  • Continuous IV sedation
  • Ability to titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips

Skills and Competencies

  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Management of multisystem organ failure
  • Experience with intra-aortic balloon pump
  • Care of post-cardiac surgery patients
  • Pulmonary artery line (Swan-Ganz) monitoring
  • Arterial line and central line care/management
  • PICC line management
  • Continuous IV sedation
  • Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Care of ventilated patients
  • Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass a 7-year background check and education verification
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
  • Required immunizations and health screenings including:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Color blind testing required
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required annually
  • Must provide a clear headshot photo for badge

Notes

  • No local candidates accepted from specified surrounding counties
  • Float assignments may include units with equal or lesser acuity
  • Documentation and compliance with all health and safety protocols required
