Registered Nurse – BICU (Madison, Wisconsin)

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 12-hour shifts (1900-0730), 3 shifts per week
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Work primarily evening/night shifts with every other weekend and some holidays.
  • ICU experience required.
  • Epic electronic health record experience required.
  • Must pass a Telemetry test prior to starting.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Burn ICU experience, with experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace and nationwide sex offender search.
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check and BID form required.
  • Education verification as applicable for RN.
  • Drug screening per standard clinical requirements.
  • Physical exam collected to meet agency standards (not facility required).
  • References: 2 clinical references within the last 3 years.
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required.

Certifications & Testing

  • Telemetry Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required:
    • Must be completed 2 Fridays prior to start and updated annually.
    • Candidates allowed 3 attempts with remediation after 2nd failure.
    • Required for ICU and critical care RNs.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
  • Annual TB questionnaire.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers required; medical or religious exemptions allowed with proper documentation.
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer required; medical or religious exemptions allowed.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or documented declination required for direct patient care roles.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season (09/22 – 04/13).
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination proof required.
  • Meningococcal vaccine or declination required if working in specific departments (e.g., Microbiology).

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Passport-style photo for badge (no selfies, headwear only for religious/medical reasons).
  • Completion of communicable disease form within 90 days of start.
  • Flu medical or religious exemption forms if applicable.
  • Medical waivers for MMR and Varicella vaccines require facility approval.
  • Telemetry study guides provided for exam preparation.
