Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Location: Columbus, Georgia
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Position Overview

  • Patient population ranges from infants to geriatrics, primarily adult patients but includes pediatric intubated patients.
  • Work setting is a Level 2 trauma center with interventional stroke certification and a Level 3 NICU, which serves as a regional transport resource.
  • Responsibilities include managing non-invasive and conventional ventilation, aerosol therapy, bedside pulmonary function tests, arterial lines, oxygen management, patient education, arterial and capillary blood gases, and line draws.
  • Trauma experience is required.
  • Pulmonary function testing (spirometry) is preferred.
  • Electronic medical record and unit systems used: Epic, Pyxis, SBAR, Viasys Vela, GE Carescape, Viasys Avea.
  • Floating within the facility and to a sister campus as needed.
  • No call requirements.
  • Weekend shifts every other weekend.
  • Holiday work expectations: If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it; if 2, expected to work both; if 3, expected to work 2 of them. Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day.
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Georgia
  • Minimum 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
  • Certifications required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Compliance and Onboarding Requirements

  • Full compliance with all documentation and credentialing required to start on time; delays result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedules.
  • Background check required within 30 days of start, including national and county criminal searches, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and education verification. Cannot start with background pending.
  • Education verification required; diplomas required for RRTs.
  • State license verification (Georgia) within 30 days prior to start.
  • Annual Nursys verification (if applicable).
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start (required by agency, not client).
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; instant drug screen acceptable; cannot start with results pending.
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months or negative chest x-ray if previously positive. TB questionnaire required annually.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed post-start if eligible.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed post-start if eligible.
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination.
    • TDAP highly recommended but not required.
    • Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31).
  • Competency exams required by agency (not client), including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency for relevant specialties.
  • Color blindness testing required; alternative evaluation available for blood collection tasks.
  • Candidate must review and sign facility code of conduct and dress/professional appearance policies prior to start.

  • Orientation hours vary based on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for an 8-week assignment).
  • Locals accepted at the same rate.
  • Maximum Return to Office (RTO) time is 7 days.
  • Night and day shift blackout dates apply (noted but not listed here).
