Registered Nurse - PCU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Unit: Medical-Surgical Step-Down Unit (MSDU) / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Patient Ratio: Able to manage 1:5 to 1:7 patient ratio on MedSurg
• Patient Population: Adult acute care patients requiring specialized care beyond general MedSurg, including continuous pulse-oximetry and telemetry monitoring
• Care includes airway management, acute BIPAP support, arterial and central lines, titrated medicated IV infusions
• Unit Size: 26 beds
• Facility Type: Tertiary Care Hospital with 528 staffed beds

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Health and Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing:

• Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
• Fit mask test (annual)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire annually
• Immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Drug screening within 30 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
• Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background and Verification

• Government-issued photo ID required
• 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly thereafter
• Education verification from primary source required (transcripts/diplomas if no verification on file)
• NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
• Employment verification of at least 2 past employments required
• References: 2 references within 3 years required for agency direct hires

Additional Information

• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
• Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
• Competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency as required by specialty
• Color blindness testing required once
• Facility-specific documents such as photo for badge and parking pass form required
• Some units may require fingerprinting and additional state-specific background checks (not applicable unless working in specified behavioral or long-term care units)

Work Hours

• 48 hours per week (3 shifts x 12 hours)
• Night shift schedule

This position offers an opportunity to work in a critical care step-down environment with a multidisciplinary team providing specialized care to complex adult patients.
