Job Opportunity: SICU Registered Nurse (Night Shift) - Bridgeport, Connecticut
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (SICU)
- Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Work Schedule: Every other weekend required; floating as needed
- Facility Type: Short term acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
- Charting System: EPIC
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Connecticut
- Minimum 1 year of Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) nursing experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid driver’s license or state ID matching legal name for identity verification
- 7-year criminal background check (updated annually), including:
- SSN trace
- County, statewide, national, and federal checks
- National sex offender registry check
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification including diploma or official transcript; foreign equivalency evaluation required for internationally educated candidates
- NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (rapid accepted)
- Fit test for N95 mask within 12 months of start, updated annually; clean-shaven required for fit testing
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation (T-Spot or QGold within 6 months, or 2 PPDs within 12 months)
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines; boosters required if low titer)
- Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history; boosters if low titer)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, completed vaccine series, or declination within 1 year)
- Tdap vaccination preferred for pediatric specialties, labor/delivery, postpartum (declination accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31)
- COVID vaccination series preferred (not required)
Required Competencies & Training
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 12 months, minimum 85% passing score
- Color blindness test (required for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024), minimum 80% passing score
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ICU nurses (including SICU)
- Language Services Training
- CAUTI (Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection) Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
- Stroke Education (except pediatric specialties and NICU)
- CLABSI (Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection) Prevention Training
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training Modules
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding Module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except pediatric specialties)
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health) - annual update required
- New Employee Orientation Module (if not a returning candidate within 1 year)
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (not required for pediatric, periop/OR, outpatient, case managers, home health)
- Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap of 6+ months between assignments or module updated)
- Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026 and forward)
Additional Requirements
- Employment application with 7-year work history, no gaps greater than 90 days
- Verification of last 7 years of employment (attestations not accepted)
- References per standard protocol
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable (not typical for SICU RN)
- EPIC testing or onsite training required; candidates with EPIC experience encouraged to test out prior to orientation
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity SICU setting within a Level II Trauma Center, requiring strong critical care nursing skills, EPIC proficiency, and compliance with extensive credentialing and training requirements.
