Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – IMC Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in Intermediate Care (IMC) Acute Med/Progressive Care and IMC Thoracic units.
- Shift: Day/Evening, 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM), Monday through Friday with every other weekend and some holidays required.
- Patient care areas include telemetry oncology, cardiac, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units.
- Ventilator and transplant patient care experience required.
- Must pass a Telemetry test prior to starting.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin.
- Minimum of 1 year of Intermediate Care experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Experience with ventilator patient care.
- Telemetry experience.
- Transplant patient care experience.
Certifications & Testing Requirements
- Telemetry Testing:
- Must complete and pass the facility’s Telemetry test (Adult or Pediatric depending on unit).
- Testing is strict with remediation and limited attempts allowed.
- Passing criteria include 80% overall and 100% in lethal rhythms subcategory.
- BLS & ACLS:
- Must be current and AHA-issued. Renewal plans must be finalized before expiration.
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP) but verify with unit specifics.
Compliance & Background Checks
- Must complete Wisconsin BID Form and Caregiver Screening within 90 days prior to start.
- Background check covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years, including SSN trace and sex offender registry.
- Background review required for any pending or convicted criminal charges (excluding traffic violations).
- Monthly monitoring through workforce monitoring systems after hire.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
- Up-to-date immunizations or documented immunity for:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – 2 doses or positive titers required.
- Varicella – 2 doses or positive titer required; history of chickenpox not accepted.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series with positive titer or signed declination form.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season (09/22 – 04/13).
- Other vaccines or declinations may be required based on department (e.g., Meningococcal for Microbiology).
- Drug screening required per agency standards.
Additional Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year (to meet agency standard).
- Signed acknowledgment of facility safety manual and pass/fail telemetry testing agreement.
- Passport-style photo for badge issuance (no selfies, headwear except for religious/medical reasons, solid background).
- Employment application and 2 clinical references within the last 3 years required.
- Annual skills checklist and competency exams as applicable.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Intermediate Care units with telemetry monitoring.
- Exposure to oncology, cardiac, ventilator, and transplant patients.
- 12-hour shifts, primarily day shifts with some evening coverage possible.
- Weekend and holiday work required on a rotating basis.
