Registered Nurse (Med/Tele/PCU)
Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7p-7a)
Hours: 12 hours per shift, 36 hours per week
Orientation: 2 shifts (12 hours each) of unit-specific orientation on Friday and Saturday of the first week; independent by Sunday
Unit & Patient Population
- Unit Type: Medical/Telemetry/Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Number of Beds: 32
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day: 1:4-5
- Night: Occasionally 5-6
- PCU overflow: 1:3
- Patient Types: Adults and geriatrics with cardiac conditions including cardiac catheterizations, electrophysiology studies, pacemakers, alcohol-related issues, COVID-19 (including BiPAP patients), general surgical patients with cardiac history, pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis
Required Skills & Experience
- Must have PCU experience
- Telemetry/cardiac nursing experience required
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips independently
- Experience with titrating drips (Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, low dose Dopamine)
- Experience with respiratory equipment troubleshooting (BiPAP, tracheostomies, Airvo)
- Epic electronic health record experience preferred
- First-time travel nurses are acceptable
Staffing & Support
- Charge Nurse present on each shift, occasionally takes a light patient load (2-3 patients)
- Patient Care Techs/Nurse Aides available, goal ratio 1:10
- Telemetry/Monitor Techs present at nurses’ station and on portable monitors
Scheduling & Requirements
- Shift rotation limited to no more than one 7a-7p to 7p-7a switch per week
- Weekend and holiday work required every other week
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating required to other areas including PCU, Medical-Surgical, and some ER holds/boarding
- Scrub color is flexible; any color scrubs allowed
Certifications & Licenses
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required
- Valid RN license for North Dakota
Additional Information
- Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related healthcare facilities within the specified system
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no extensions allowed
- More of a telemetry/cardiac-focused unit
Summary
This is a 13-week night shift contract for an experienced Med/Tele/PCU RN with strong cardiac and telemetry skills, including the ability to titrate drips and interpret cardiac strips.
