Registered Nurse (PCU)

Location

• Omaha, Nebraska

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 28 beds
• Patient population: Adults, mixed medical/surgical, including cardiac and stroke patients, often admitted through the ER
• High patient flow with frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
• Nurse aide/patient care tech ratio: 1:14
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
• Telemetry/Monitor techs available; RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry

Shift & Scheduling

• Night shifts: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts)
• 6-week scheduling cycle
• Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Friday and Saturday nights)
• Holiday shifts rotate with permanent staff

Orientation

• One week classroom orientation
• Followed by two 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation

Floating

• Required to float to Med/Surg and other hospital areas, including ICU and ED, based on abilities and patient care needs

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Nebraska
• Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications

Additional Requirements & Policies

• Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate is within a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within the 50-mile radius
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs

Equipment & Support

• Specialty equipment includes Code Carts, LUCAS machines, hoyer lifts, and Sit and Stand devices
• Unit secretary available 2-3 days per week
• Stocking clerk available 3 days per week

Work Environment

• Fast-paced, high flow unit requiring teamwork and positive attitude to manage challenges
