Registered Nurse (PCU)
Location
- Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 28 beds
- Patient population: Adults, mixed medical/surgical, including cardiac and stroke patients, often admitted through the ER
- High patient flow with frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
- Nurse aide/patient care tech ratio: 1:14
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
- Telemetry/Monitor techs available; RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry
Shift & Scheduling
- Night shifts: 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM (12-hour shifts)
- 6-week scheduling cycle
- Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Friday and Saturday nights)
- Holiday shifts rotate with permanent staff
Orientation
- One week classroom orientation
- Followed by two 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation
Floating
- Required to float to Med/Surg and other hospital areas, including ICU and ED, based on abilities and patient care needs
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate is within a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within the 50-mile radius
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
Equipment & Support
- Specialty equipment includes Code Carts, LUCAS machines, hoyer lifts, and Sit and Stand devices
- Unit secretary available 2-3 days per week
- Stocking clerk available 3 days per week
Work Environment
- Fast-paced, high flow unit requiring teamwork and positive attitude to manage challenges
