Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg Unit

Location: Uniontown, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit: 1W MedSurg (28 all-private beds)
• Patient Types: Mainly post-surgical and orthopedic patients
• Telemetry: Patients may be on remote telemetry monitored by a separate tech; no direct monitors on the unit
• Common Diagnoses: Post-surgical, ortho, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end-of-life, low volume inpatient chemo (administered by director/manager)
• COVID-19: May be assigned to both COVID-positive ("dirty") and non-COVID ("clean") patients simultaneously; comfort with this is required

Work Schedule & Shifts

• Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Hours per week: 36
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) plus 2 Fridays per schedule (often grouped Fri-Sat-Sun)
• Holidays: Work included in permanent staff holiday rotation
• Self-scheduling and blocked schedules allowed if unit needs are met

Staffing & Ratios

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6-7
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Clinical Manager Mon-Sat acts as charge nurse and nurse manager; nights have a resource nurse with full patient assignment
• Nurse Aides: 2 CNAs on day shifts; no CNAs on nights
• Floating: Only to other MedSurg units

Patient Care & Procedures

• Drips: Heparin and possibly morphine sulfate for comfort measures; no cardiac drips
• Ventilation: Bipap, Cpap, High Flow managed by Respiratory Therapy
• Nurse’s Read Strips: Not used

Orientation & Requirements

• Orientation: 1 shift with a preceptor on the specific floor
• Certification: BLS required
• Additional: Must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license; disclose any professional license hits at submission
• Radius Rule: Must be within 50 miles of the facility

Dress Code

• Scrubs: Navy blue; jackets (if worn) must also be navy blue

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license for Pennsylvania
• BLS Certification
• Comfortable caring for both COVID-positive and non-COVID patients on the same unit

This position is ideal for RNs experienced in MedSurg nursing who are comfortable with night shifts, weekend work, and a variety of patient care needs including post-surgical, orthopedic, and palliative care populations.
