Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Med/Surg travel assignment requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and night shift availability.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a Med/Surg unit (1W or 2E) — 1W focuses on post-surgical and orthopedic patients; 2E includes general Med/Surg, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end-of-life, and low-volume inpatient chemo patients
• Both units have private beds: 1W has 28 beds and 2E has 29 beds
• Patient ratio is 1:6–7
• Patients on remote telemetry monitoring are managed by a monitor tech on another floor; nurses are not required to read strips
• Drips include heparin and possibly MSO4 for comfort measures; no cardiac drips
• Respiratory support (BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow) is managed by respiratory therapy
• 2E currently cohorts COVID-positive ('dirty') and COVID-negative ('clean') patients in separate hallways; candidates must be comfortable with potential exposure to both on the same shift
• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday); 2 Fridays per schedule block also required
• Floating is limited to other Med/Surg units only
• Charting is done in Cerner
• Self-scheduling and blocked schedules are permitted as long as unit needs are met
• Holiday shifts are worked in rotation with permanent staff

Requirements

• Active PA RN license or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current BLS certification required
• Cerner EMR experience is beneficial given its use on the unit
• A valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
• Must be comfortable caring for both COVID-positive and COVID-negative patients in a cohorting environment
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of 1 preceptored shift
• A clinical manager serves Mon–Sat as both charge nurse and nurse manager; nights are covered by a resource nurse who carries a full patient assignment
• Days shift includes 2 CNAs per unit; no CNAs are available on nights
• Navy blue scrubs are required; any jacket worn must also be navy blue
• 2 professional references are required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., charge RN)
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken at least a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than 1 cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
