Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery (Travel Contract)

Location: Georgetown, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Hours per Week: 36
Start Date: June 1st only
On-Call: No on-call required for staff RNs

Unit Overview

• Unit Type: Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Special Care Nursery
• Beds: 23 total (12 Labor, 11 Postpartum)
• Staff: Approximately 59 nurses and support staff
• Patient Ratios:

  • Labor: 1:2 (unless high risk)
  • Postpartum couplets: up to 1:4 (ideally 1:3)
• Typical Procedures:

  • Cervical ripening, induction of labor (Pitocin)
  • Magnesium sulfate, insulin drips
  • Care for high-risk/Level II maternal patients
  • Mother-baby postpartum care
  • Infant care in special care nursery (Level II NICU planned for late 2024)
  • C-sections, tubal ligations, cerclage removals
  • Care of fetal demise patients
• Equipment:

  • Alaris Pumps, Giraffe Warmers, GE Fetal Monitors
  • Monica wireless monitoring, Giraffe Isolette
  • EMR systems: GE Centricity/CPN & Meditech

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of recent Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
• Postpartum nursing experience
• Current certifications in:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN)

Work Environment & Culture

• Schedule: Rotating weekends approximately every other weekend
• Call: CNCs take call 1 weekend every 6 weeks; staff RNs are not responsible for call unless scheduled
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs required (travelers do not need embroidered stork symbol)

• Permanent RN positions available on the unit for day and evening shifts
• No Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) employed on this floor; focus on RNs and CSTs for contract labor needs
