Job Summary

The Cardiac Cath Lab Technician II is an experienced member of the cath lab team, supporting a wide range of diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. Responsibilities include preparing the lab, equipment, and supplies, ensuring accurate patient documentation, maintaining sterile technique, and serving as a resource and preceptor for junior staff. The role requires collaboration with the procedure team to ensure patient safety and departmental efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain cath lab equipment and supplies; perform daily room checks and stocking.
• Access and review patient schedules and information for assigned procedures.
• Ensure proper room setup and equipment configuration for all procedures.
• Document procedures accurately, including hemodynamic measurements and ECG recognition.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique during procedures; intervene if sterile technique is compromised.
• Support physicians during procedures, including patient positioning and equipment operation.
• Train and precept junior technicians and technologists.
• Act as a resource for advanced procedures and technology (e.g., structural heart procedures, IABP, Impella, LVAD).
• Serve as radiation safety representative during X-Ray use (not licensed to administer fluoroscopy).
• Adhere to patient safety, privacy, infection control, and communication policies.
• Participate in patient transport as needed.
• Support departmental and organizational goals including quality improvement and customer service.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Cath Lab Technologist license in Texas
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Cath Lab Technologist, including experience within the last year
• Experience in Diagnostic, Interventional Radiology, or Cath/EP Lab (minimum 2 years)
• Experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Certification from one of the following:

  • Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Radiography (R)
  • ARRT Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI)
  • ARRT Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV)
  • ARRT Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI)
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)

Additional Information

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
• Call requirement: 16-18 days, including 3 weekends out of a 6-week schedule (holidays required).
