Job Details

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (0630-1830, 1830-0630)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other or as needed based on unit needs
• Orientation: 2 shifts of unit/department specific orientation
• Floating: Will float to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
• Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs

Unit Information

• Department: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
• Beds: 18
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1
• Patient Population:

  • Open heart, complex thoracic and vascular patients
  • Patients supported by Impella, IABP, CRRT, and ECMO
  • Common and advanced cardiac surgeries, lytic cases, carotids, TCARS, Fempop, EVARs/Endo AAAs
  • Complex cases from cath lab, structural heart program, EP lab, ER, and clinic
• Support Staff:

  • No CNAs on unit
  • Charge nurse present on each shift and takes assignment
  • Hospitalists and Intensivists in-house 24/7
  • No Tele/Monitor Techs; RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: RNs troubleshoot vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, etc.

Required Qualifications

• Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Certifications: BLS and ACLS required
• Experience: Minimum 1 year experience with CVICU patient population
• Skills:

  • Ability to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
  • Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation
• Other Requirements:

  • Driver’s license required at submittal (used to verify candidate is within 50 miles radius)
  • Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
  • Candidates may not currently be employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large health system within 50 miles

• Schedule created by manager
• Radius rule: candidate must live within 50 miles of the facility
• Return to orientation (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved
