Registered Nurse (Med Telemetry)

Location: Iron Mountain, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48 hours

Unit and Patient Population

• 24 inpatient beds, plus up to 10 observation/day surgeries
• Common diagnoses: nursing home patients, cellulitis, UTI, COPD, genitourinary issues, pacemaker patients, sepsis
• Day surgeries include ortho (hips and knees), cholecystectomy, appendectomy, TURPS-CBI
• Small pediatric population (~3 per year), only assigned to travelers with prior pediatric experience or if no other options
• Limited onsite resources: no IV team (RNs must be comfortable with IV starts)
• Respiratory therapist available 24/7, oversees entire hospital
• Telemetry monitoring done in ICU; nurses have basic arrhythmia monitoring responsibilities

Staffing and Ratios

• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 5:1 day shift, 6:1 night shift
• Team nursing with LPNs (LPNs work until 11 PM, ratio 2 LPNs to 7 RNs)
• Charge nurse takes assignment; travelers may serve as relief charge nurse
• Nurse aides available on unit
• Hospitalist or intensivist onsite until 6 PM daily; telemedicine coverage after hours
• Respiratory therapist available 24/7 with CPAP equipment

Scheduling and Requirements

• Weekend rotation every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday coverage required (2 out of 3 holidays)
• Potential call or standby assignment
• Must be able to float to similar units and patient populations
• Dress code: solid professional attire, no specific color required

Orientation

• Unit-specific orientation includes:

  • Day 1: 8 hours computer education + 4 hours shadowing
  • Day 2: 12-hour orientation shift
  • Day 3: independent work

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license for Michigan
• BLS (AHA) required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of acute care Med Telemetry nursing experience
• Preferred experience with TURPS-CBI procedures
• Preferred experience in Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 settings
• Comfortable with IV starts and working with limited onsite resources

Additional Notes

• RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Clinicians who have previously worked at this facility must have ended employment at least 6 months prior to submission
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
